HIGHLIGHTED PROJECTS

Mahoning Valley Greening Lots Program

the community foundation healthy community partnership parks and green spaces team

In an effort to address Goal 4 of the Community Foundation’s HCP Parks and Green Spaces Action Team, ECO is collaborating with Trumbull Neighborhood Partnership and other local partners to develop the Mahoning Valley Greening Lots Program. The Greening Lots Program is a collaborative project between community partners in both Trumbull and Mahoning counties that is aimed at developing and implementing comprehensive guidance documents for neighborhood and grassroots organizations. These documents will aid them in developing, utilizing and maintaining blighted or vacant lots in a sustainable way that contributes to the overall health of communities. In addition, the Greening Lots Program will provide technical resources and policy recommendations to empower organizations to execute the work in the most impactful way.

The goals of this program are:

  1. To increase the knowledge base on best management practices for greenspaces in an informed and responsible manner by providing technical resources and decision-making tools to community organizations developing land.

  2. Combine resources to take higher level approach to progressive land stewardship, allowing for a collective positive impact to the communities throughout the Mahoning River Valley.
